BASF US 341 chilli hybrid

US 341 is BASF-Nunhems' flagship F1 hybrid in the slim-fruited '341' Teja-type segment, marketed across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The hybrid produces semi-erect, vigorous plants suitable for both green and red-dry harvest and is one of the long-standing reference cultivars in the Indian Teja-segment trade.

Key characteristics

  • Company: BASF (Nunhems India)
  • Segment: '341' Teja-type slim-fruit
  • Fruit: approximately 13 cm length x 1.2 cm diameter
  • Colour: ASTA value up to ~125
  • Use: dual-purpose green and red-dry

Cultivation

US 341 is positioned for the south Indian dry-chilli belt and is grown using standard package-of-practice operations: raised-bed nursery (Practice Chilli Nursery Raising), staged NPK (Practice Chilli Fertilizer Schedule) and the IPM spray calendar (Practice Chilli Spray Schedule). The hybrid is noted for early maturity and good dry-pod quality.

Pest and disease profile

Like other slim-fruit Teja-segment chillies (Chilli Teja Segment), US 341 is exposed to black thrips (Pest Thrips Parvispinus Black Thrips), yellow and broad mite (Pest Mites Chilli), chilli leaf curl virus (Disease Chilli Leaf Curl Virus) and fruit anthracnose (Disease Chilli Dieback Anthracnose).

Adoption and use

BASF/Nunhems has been a major Indian vegetable-seed presence for more than 25 years; US 341 has subsequently been refreshed as the '341 Pro' line in the company's portfolio. It is sold through the bulk of Indian agri-input distributors and serves alongside the leaf-curl-tolerant Armour (Chilli Basf Armour) and competitor Byadgi-type hybrids (Chilli Syngenta Hph 2043). Post-harvest follows the standard sun-drying protocol (Practice Chilli Picking Drying).
