Acetamiprid

Acetamiprid is a neonicotinoid insecticide widely registered in India in 20% SP formulation under brands including Dhanuka Dhanpreet, Nagarjuna Ennova, Anshul Ikon and Shivalik Control. It is a systemic, broad-spectrum tool for the sucking-pest complex in cotton, paddy, vegetables, fruits and pulses.

Composition / Active ingredient

  • Active ingredient: Acetamiprid
  • Formulation: 20% SP (soluble powder)
  • Chemical class: Neonicotinoid (chloronicotinyl)

Mode of action

Acetamiprid is a competitive modulator of the insect nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), classified as IRAC Group 4A. It is absorbed both by roots and foliage and translocated systemically through the xylem, giving residual activity inside leaf tissue beyond the spray deposit.

Target use and dose

Primary targets are aphids, jassids, whitefly, thrips and leafhoppers. Typical cotton dose is 20-40 g/acre at 10-15 day intervals. In groundnut, 100 g/acre is used for jassid management. Effective on tomato, brinjal, okra, paddy and pulses against the same sucking-pest complex.

Safety and regulatory status

Acetamiprid has lower mammalian toxicity than older neonicotinoids and a relatively favourable bee-safety profile compared to imidacloprid, though label intervals around flowering should be respected. Resistance is documented in cotton whitefly populations; rotation with non-neonicotinoid modes of action such as Flonicamid Ulala (IRAC 29), Diafenthiuron Pegasus (12A) or Spirotetramat Movento (23) is recommended.
