Tikka leaf spot in groundnut (Cercospora spp.)

Tikka (leaf spot) of groundnut is a two-pathogen complex - early leaf spot (Cercospora arachidicola; Passalora arachidicola) appearing 10-18 days after emergence and late leaf spot (Cercosporidium personatum; Nothopassalora personata) at 28-35 DAE.

Identification and biology

  • Pathogens: Cercospora arachidicola (early) + Cercosporidium personatum (late)
  • Yield Loss: >50% without fungicide protection
  • Early Vs Late Symptom: early: yellow halo, 1-10 mm circular; late: dark brown 1.5-6 mm without halo
  • Fungicides: mancozeb 0.25%, carbendazim 0.1%, hexaconazole, propiconazole, tebuconazole+trifloxystrobin

Management

Combined yield losses exceed 50% without fungicide protection. ICAR-DGR Junagadh and AICRP-Groundnut recommend mancozeb 0.25%, carbendazim 0.1%, hexaconazole 0.1%, propiconazole 0.1%, and azoxystrobin+difenoconazole at 15-day intervals from 30 DAS; tebuconazole+trifloxystrobin (Nativo) gives best yield response in recent trials.
