PMKSY Per Drop More Crop (Micro-Irrigation Subsidy)

Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) is the micro-irrigation component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), the central umbrella scheme launched on 1 July 2015 to bring synergy among irrigation programmes. PDMC subsidises adoption of drip and sprinkler systems through state agriculture and horticulture departments via Direct Benefit Transfer.

Overview

PMKSY is administered by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, with sister components on water source creation handled by the Department of Land Resources and Jal Shakti Ministry. PDMC's objective is to improve on-farm water-use efficiency through pressurised micro-irrigation and to support the technology in fruit, vegetable, sugarcane, cotton and field-crop plantings.

Eligibility

Individual farmers across general and reserved categories are eligible, subject to verification of land ownership or tenancy. The benefit is available for area up to 5 hectares per beneficiary in a scheme cycle, and applications must be made through the state portal with prior empanelment of the equipment supplier.

Benefit and structure

  • 55% subsidy for small and marginal farmers
  • 45% subsidy for other farmers
  • Beneficiary cap: 5 hectares per farmer
  • Only BIS-certified micro-irrigation system components are eligible for the subsidy

The Operational Guidelines define unit-cost norms for drip and sprinkler systems, including crop-spacing-specific drip lateral configurations.

Implementation

State agriculture and horticulture departments run the registration, sanction and inspection process. Empanelled manufacturers supply BIS-certified components and submit completion certificates; subsidy is released by DBT into the beneficiary's bank account on confirmation of installation. PDMC is often combined with MIDH (see Midh Mission Integrated Horticulture) for orchard projects.
