Agil (Propaquizafop 10% EC)
Adama Agil is a selective post-emergent grass herbicide containing propaquizafop 10% EC, registered in India for use in cotton, soybean, pulses and vegetables. It controls a wide range of annual and perennial grasses in broadleaf crops without injuring the crop.
Composition / Active ingredient
- Active ingredient: Propaquizafop
- Formulation: 10% EC (emulsifiable concentrate)
- Chemical class: Aryloxyphenoxy-propionate ("fop" family)
Mode of action
Propaquizafop inhibits acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) in grass meristems, blocking fatty acid biosynthesis. It is classified under HRAC Group 1. Absorbed rapidly by leaves, it translocates to growing points where it halts elongation; treated grasses yellow within days and die within 1-3 weeks. Broadleaf crops are inherently tolerant because their ACCase enzyme is structurally different.
Target use and dose
Agil controls annual and perennial grasses including foxtail (Setaria), barnyard grass (Echinochloa), wild oats and bermuda grass. Best efficacy is at the 2-4 leaf stage of grass weeds. The product is rainfast within about one hour of application. Registered crops in India include soybean, cotton, pulses and vegetables.
Safety and regulatory status
Propaquizafop is selective only on broadleaf crops; spray drift onto cereal crops will cause injury. It is not effective against broadleaf weeds or sedges, so it is commonly tank-mixed or rotated with broadleaf-active herbicides such as Pyrithiobac Quizalofop Cotton combinations or directed sprays of Upl Sweep Power Glufosinate on bunds.
