Galileo Sensa (Picoxystrobin + Tricyclazole)

Corteva Galileo Sensa is a paddy and chilli fungicide pre-mix combining picoxystrobin 6.78% and tricyclazole 20.33% as a 27.11% SC. It is positioned as a one-shot solution for rice blast and chilli anthracnose, with both broad-spectrum and target-specific actives.

Mode of action

Two unrelated modes operate in parallel:

Picoxystrobin is a methoxyacrylate QoI that blocks mitochondrial complex III electron transport, halting ATP production. Systemic with translaminar movement. FRAC group 11.
Tricyclazole inhibits scytalone dehydratase in the fungal melanin biosynthesis pathway. Without melanin, the appressorium cannot generate the turgor pressure needed to penetrate plant tissue, preventing infection rather than killing existing mycelium. FRAC group 16.1 (MBI-R).

The combination delivers protective, curative and translaminar action with two distinct resistance-management modes.

Target use and dose

Standard dose is 400 ml/acre (~2 ml/L). Target diseases:

Paddy: leaf blast, node blast, neck blast (Magnaporthe oryzae), grain spotting
Chilli: anthracnose (Colletotrichum spp.), wet rot, powdery mildew

The product is preferred where heavy blast pressure coincides with general foliar disease — the tricyclazole component prevents infection while the QoI cures established foliar lesions.

Safety and regulatory status

Tricyclazole has a strict EU MRL of 0.01 mg/kg, effectively limiting its use on rice destined for European export markets (see Tricyclazole). QoI resistance is documented in several rice and vegetable pathogens; rotation with non-QoI fungicides — Mancozeb Carbendazim Saaf, Zineb Hexaconazole Avtar — protects efficacy.
