JK Agri Genetics 9555 cotton hybrid

JKCH-9555 is a Bollgard-II Bt cotton hybrid in the big-boll segment introduced by JK Agri Genetics Limited in 2023. The hybrid is part of JK Agri Genetics' cotton portfolio alongside the medium-duration JKCH-99 BG-II.

Cultivation

The hybrid follows the standard package-of-practice for Bt cotton: basal NPK with zinc at sowing (Cotton First Dose Fertilizer), the pre- plus post-emergence herbicide programme (Cotton Weed Management) and mechanical inter-cultivation (Cotton First 30 Days Management). Short- to medium-duration cotton hybrids are widely deployed in double-cropping systems (Cotton Double Cropping Systems) where rabi maize, sorghum, wheat or chickpea follows cotton.

Pest profile

The Bollgard-II trait controls the lepidopteran bollworm complex, but does not control sap-sucking pests (Sucking Pest Complex Cotton) or non-lepidopteran pests. Field resistance of Pink Bollworm to the Cry1Ac+Cry2Ab stack means supplementary IPM measures — pheromone trapping, timely sowing (Cotton Delayed Sowing Ipm) and refuge maintenance (Refuge In Bag Cotton) — are needed.

Adoption and use

Independent ICAR-CICR or AICRP duration and yield data for JKCH-9555 are not yet in the public trial database; published agronomic details anchor to manufacturer and trade-press coverage. JK Agri Genetics is one of the older indigenous Indian cotton seed firms and pioneered the IIT Kharagpur Bt cotton event distinct from the Mahyco-Monsanto event.
