Moringa (drumstick) leaf powder
Moringa leaf powder is produced by washing fresh leaves, separating from stems, shade-drying below 45 degC to preserve heat-labile nutrients (vitamin C, beta-carotene), and grinding to fine powder.
Key parameters
- Drying Temp: below 45 degC to retain nutrients (shade-drying)
- Proximate Composition: ~15% protein, ~60% carbohydrate, ~9% crude fibre
- Yield: ~6 t/ha fresh leaf; ~1000 kg/acre dry powder
- Growing States: Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Gujarat
Implementation and adoption
India dominates global moringa-leaf-powder exports to Europe (nutraceuticals), US (supplements) and Asia (cosmetics). The dried powder typically contains ~15% protein, ~60% carbohydrate, ~9% crude fibre and is rich in iron, calcium, beta-carotene, vitamin C and quercetin. Each hectare delivers ~6 t fresh leaf/year or ~1000 kg/acre dry powder.
