Cabrio Top
BASF Cabrio Top is a 60% WG fungicide pre-mix combining metiram 55% (an EBDC multi-site protectant) and pyraclostrobin 5% (a strobilurin QoI). It is one of the most widely used contact-plus-systemic fungicides in Indian horticulture.
Composition / Active ingredient
- Composition: Metiram 55% + Pyraclostrobin 5% WG
- Chemical classes: Ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate (EBDC) + Methoxycarbamate strobilurin
Mode of action
The two actives operate at different sites:
- Metiram is a multi-site contact fungicide releasing reactive sulphur compounds that inhibit several fungal enzymes (FRAC group M03). Risk of resistance is very low.
- Pyraclostrobin is a quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) blocking mitochondrial complex III electron transport (FRAC group 11). It provides systemic curative action and a "greening effect" on treated foliage.
The mix gives protective, curative and anti-sporulant activity.
Target use and dose
CIBRC-labelled crops include groundnut, chilli, tomato, grape, cotton, onion, apple, banana and cumin. Cabrio Top controls early and late blight, anthracnose, downy and powdery mildew, leaf spot and fruit spot. Typical foliar dose is ~2 g/L (~600-700 g/acre); in groundnut, 700 g/acre is used against pod fungal diseases as an alternative to Nativo Fungicide at 100 g/acre.
Safety and regulatory status
EBDC fungicides such as metiram leave ethylenethiourea (ETU) residues; pre-harvest intervals on label must be observed, particularly on grapes destined for export. Rotate with non-QoI fungicides such as Mancozeb Carbendazim Saaf or Zineb Hexaconazole Avtar to delay resistance to the strobilurin component.
