Metiram + pyraclostrobin (Cabrio Top)
BASF Cabrio Top is a 60% WG fungicide pre-mix combining metiram 55% and pyraclostrobin 5%. Metiram is the longest-chain EBDC fungicide (a complex of zinc ammoniate ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate), and pyraclostrobin is BASF's lead strobilurin (F500). The mix is widely used in chilli, grapes and tomato for blight, spot and mildew control.
Composition / Active ingredient
- Composition: Metiram 55% + Pyraclostrobin 5% WG
- Chemical classes: Ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate (EBDC) + Methoxycarbamate strobilurin
- Manufacturer: BASF
Mode of action
The two actives provide complementary protection:
- Metiram is a multi-site contact protectant releasing reactive sulphur compounds that block fungal enzymes. FRAC group M03.
- Pyraclostrobin is a quinone outside inhibitor (QoI) blocking mitochondrial complex III electron transport at the Qo site, stopping ATP production. FRAC group 11. It is systemic in the leaf and produces the strobilurin "greening" effect.
The combination is preventive plus early-curative, with low resistance risk to the multi-site partner.
Target use and dose
CIBRC-labelled crops include chilli (leaf spot, fruit spot, yellow leaf disease), tomato, grape, onion, cucumber, banana, apple, cotton and groundnut. Typical foliar dose is ~2 g/L (~600 g/acre). The combo is widely used as a tank-mix substitute when Cabrio Top is sold under its branded SKU.
Safety and regulatory status
EBDC fungicides such as metiram produce ethylenethiourea (ETU) on degradation; pre-harvest intervals on label, especially for export grapes, must be observed. Strobilurin resistance has been documented globally in several pathogens; rotation with non-QoI fungicides (Mancozeb Carbendazim Saaf, Zineb Hexaconazole Avtar) is essential.
