Ipfencarbazone (Dhanuka Dinkar)
Dhanuka Dinkar (Ipfencarbazone 25% SC) is a Japanese-origin pre-emergent rice herbicide launched in India through a collaboration between Dhanuka Agritech and Hokko Chemical Industry, Japan. It is positioned for transplanted paddy with broad-spectrum residual control of grasses, sedges and broadleaf weeds.
Composition / Active ingredient
- Active ingredient: Ipfencarbazone
- Formulation: 25% SC (suspension concentrate)
- Technical originator: Hokko Chemical Industry, Japan
- Indian marketer: Dhanuka Agritech
Mode of action
Ipfencarbazone is a long-chain fatty acid (VLCFA) elongase inhibitor, blocking cell-membrane lipid biosynthesis in germinating weed seedlings. Although it belongs to a newer triazolinone class, its biochemical site of action aligns it with the VLCFA inhibitors (broadly comparable to HRAC Group 15). It is absorbed by the emerging shoot and coleoptile rather than the established root, preventing weeds from breaking through the soil surface.
Target use and dose
Application is 200 ml/acre, mixed with sand and broadcast in 2-3 inch standing water within 0-3 days of transplanting. Target weeds include:
- Echinochloa crus-galli (barnyard grass)
- Cyperus iria, Cyperus difformis (sedges)
- Ludwigia, Ammania, Eclipta (broadleaf)
The product gives up to 50 days of residual control and does not cause the reddening that some other paddy pre-emergents produce.
Safety and regulatory status
Ipfencarbazone is a recent introduction in India and is positioned for early-season residual cover, replacing or complementing established pre-emergents like Pretilachlor Craze. For full-season weed management, growers typically follow up with a post-emergent ALS inhibitor such as Bispyribac Sodium Nominee Gold or Pyrazosulfuron Chempa when escaped weeds emerge.
