MTU 1282

MTU 1282 is a high-yielding rice variety from the Maruteru Rice Research Station (ANGRAU) in Andhra Pradesh. It is included in AICRIP / ICAR-IIRR Maruteru centre release lists and is marketed as a fine-grain alternative to Bpt 5204 for the AP/Telangana coastal zone.

Key characteristics

  • Breeding station: Maruteru Rice Research Station (ANGRAU)
  • Duration: ~125 days seed-to-seed
  • Positioning: fine-grain alternative to BPT 5204

Cultivation

The variety fits transplanted (Transplanting Paddy) kharif and rabi systems in coastal AP and the wider AP-Telangana paddy belt. Its shorter duration relative to BPT 5204 allows it to slot into double-cropping and into the leading half of the kharif planting window. Standard fine-grain agronomy applies, with boot-stage and panicle-initiation nutrition critical to yield realisation.

Adoption and use

MTU 1282 is sold through ANGRAU foundation and certified seed channels and is part of the same Maruteru portfolio as Mtu 1010, Mtu 1224 and Mtu 1271. It competes alongside Drr Dhan 75 and Rnr 15048 in the fine-grain replacement segment.
