JGL 18047 (Bathukamma)

JGL 18047, marketed as Bathukamma, is a long-slender paddy variety released in 2015 by the Polasa Rice Research Station, Jagtial, under Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU).

Key characteristics

  • Marketing name: Bathukamma
  • Released by: Polasa Rice Research Station, Jagtial (PJTSAU), 2015
  • Grain type: long slender
  • Yield potential: 7.5-8.0 t/ha under good management
  • Positioning: described as MTU 1010-like in duration and grain type, but with higher yield potential

Cultivation

The variety fits transplanted (Transplanting Paddy) kharif and rabi systems in Telangana and adjacent paddy belts. Its long-slender grain caters to the mainstream non-fine market segment served by Mtu 1010, while its higher tiller and panicle traits target the per-acre yield ceiling that limits MTU 1010 in well-managed fields.

Adoption and use

Bathukamma has been recognised by the Telangana state government as a fine variety of paddy and has spread across substantial areas of Telangana and neighbouring states through breeder and foundation seed channels operated by PJTSAU. It is part of the same Jagtial portfolio that includes Jgl 24423 and Jgl 28545.
