Indofil Avtar (Zineb + Hexaconazole)
Indofil Avtar is a contact-plus-systemic fungicide pre-mix containing zineb 68% and hexaconazole 4% as WP. It is widely used in paddy, tea, apple, maize and cotton for foliar and panicle disease control, with an added benefit of zinc nutrition from the EBDC component.
Composition / Active ingredient
- Composition: Zineb 68% + Hexaconazole 4% WP
- Chemical classes: Zinc ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate (EBDC) + Triazole (DMI)
- Manufacturer: Indofil Industries
Mode of action
Two complementary modes operate together:
- Zineb is a multi-site contact protectant — an ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate releasing reactive sulphur compounds that inhibit several fungal enzymes. FRAC group M03. Risk of resistance is very low.
- Hexaconazole is a triazole DMI that inhibits C14-α-demethylase (CYP51) in fungal sterol biosynthesis, disrupting ergosterol production and membrane integrity. FRAC group 3. Systemic via xylem.
The mix delivers protective, curative and translaminar action; the EBDC's zinc atom also supplies a small foliar dose of zinc, a frequently deficient micronutrient in Indian paddy soils.
Target use and dose
CIBRC-registered uses:
- Paddy: sheath blight, brown spot, blast, grain discoloration
- Tea: blister blight (Exobasidium vexans)
- Apple: scab, powdery mildew
- Maize, cotton: foliar leaf spots
Standard rate is around 1.5-2.5 g/L (about 300-500 g/acre).
Safety and regulatory status
EBDC fungicides degrade to ethylenethiourea (ETU) on storage and metabolism; pre-harvest intervals on label must be observed, particularly for export crops. Hexaconazole shares the DMI mechanism with tebuconazole and difenoconazole, so rotation with QoI (Nativo Fungicide, Cabrio Top) and multi-site (Mancozeb Carbendazim Saaf, Input Copper Oxychloride) products preserves long-term efficacy.
