Flupyradifurone (Gracia, Lanevo)

Flupyradifurone is the first butenolide insecticide, originally launched by Bayer in 2014 as Sivanto. In India it is co-marketed by partner brands including Godrej Gracia (standalone) and Dhanuka Lanevo (a bifenthrin combination) for chilli and other horticultural sucking-pest management.

Composition / Active ingredient

  • Active ingredient: Flupyradifurone
  • Chemical class: Butenolide (derived from the natural compound stemofoline)
  • Originator: Bayer (Sivanto)
  • Indian combo: Dhanuka Lanevo = Bifenthrin 5.81% + Flupyradifurone 5.81% EC

Mode of action

Flupyradifurone is a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) competitive modulator, classified under IRAC Group 4D — a separate sub-group from neonicotinoids (4A). The different binding profile means flupyradifurone retains efficacy against neonicotinoid-resistant whitefly and aphid populations. It is systemic via xylem and translaminar; activity is by ingestion and contact.

Target use and dose

Flupyradifurone controls a broad sap-sucking complex: aphids, whitefly, jassids, thrips, mealybugs, scale insects and citrus psyllids. Formulations are used as foliar spray, soil drench, drip injection and seed treatment.

Dhanuka Lanevo (the bifenthrin combo) is sprayed in chilli at 250 ml/acre for thrips, whitefly, fruit borer and caterpillars, addressing both the sucking-pest complex and lepidopteran cover. Market price for 250 ml is around ₹2,100-2,400 (MRP ~₹2,700).

Safety and regulatory status

Flupyradifurone is positioned as comparatively pollinator-safer than older neonicotinoids, though label restrictions during bloom apply. Lanevo's pyrethroid component (bifenthrin, see Bifenthrin) carries higher fish toxicity than the standalone. For resistance management, rotate Group 4D with non-nAChR chemistry such as Flonicamid Ulala (29), Spirotetramat Movento (23) and Diafenthiuron Pegasus (12A).
