Cyantraniliprole (Benevia / Verimark)
Cyantraniliprole is FMC's second-generation anthranilic diamide, branded Cyazypyr as the active. It is the only commercial diamide with practical cross-spectrum activity on both chewing (Lepidoptera) and sap-sucking pests (thrips, whitefly, aphids).
Composition / Active ingredient
- Active ingredient: Cyantraniliprole (Cyazypyr)
- Formulations: Benevia 10.26% OD (foliar); Verimark (soil-drench / drip)
- Chemical class: Anthranilic diamide
Mode of action
Cyantraniliprole activates insect ryanodine receptors (IRAC Group 28), causing uncontrolled calcium release in muscle and feeding cessation within minutes of ingestion. Compared with Chlorantraniliprole, the addition of a cyano group broadens the spectrum to include sucking pests by increasing translaminar and systemic mobility, so the active reaches phloem-feeders.
Target use and dose
CIBRC-registered uses in India include cotton, tomato, cabbage, brinjal, okra, chilli, pomegranate and grapes. Target pests are:
- Sap-suckers: thrips, whitefly, aphids
- Chewers: fruit borer, Helicoverpa, leaf miner
Indian field trials in chilli at 120 g a.i./ha reported approximately 84% fruit-borer and 78% thrips reduction. Verimark soil application provides 4-6 weeks of systemic protection during early crop growth.
Safety and regulatory status
Benevia carries a green-label "Caution" classification. Although cyantraniliprole is bee-active under direct contact, label restrictions around bloom protect pollinators. To preserve diamide chemistry, rotation with non-Group 28 modes of action — Broflanilide Exponus (30), Flonicamid Ulala (29), Spirotetramat Movento (23) — is mandated.
