Aryaman (Seminis) tomato

Aryaman is an F1 hybrid tomato (Tomato Crop) bred and marketed by Seminis, the vegetable seed brand of Bayer Vegetable Seeds in India. It is an early-maturing variety positioned for the commercial fresh-market and long-distance transport segment.

Key characteristics

  • Breeder/marketer: Seminis (Bayer Vegetable Seeds)
  • Fruit: elongated square, bright red
  • First harvest: 55-60 days after transplant
  • Shelf life: 12-14 days
  • Recommended states: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Assam, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand and the North-Eastern states

Cultivation

Aryaman is grown as a staked open-field commercial tomato using the standard nursery-and-transplant package described in Tomato Crop. Earliness allows growers to target the early-season high-price market window. The elongated square fruit shape and firm flesh are selected for tolerance to mechanical handling during long-distance transport. The hybrid is widely sold in Nashik, Maharashtra at a typical pack size of 3500 seeds.

Pest and disease profile

The hybrid is exposed to the standard tomato disease complex including leaf curl (Tomato Leaf Curl Virus) and the Alternaria/Phytophthora blights (Tomato Early Late Blight); growers manage these through whitefly suppression, fungicide programmes and varietal rotation.

Adoption and use

Aryaman is one of several mainstream private-sector hybrids in the Indian commercial tomato market, alongside Tomato Variety Sahoo and Tomato Variety Salaar. It is distributed through Bayer's dealer network and online agri-retail platforms.
