Novixid (Penoxsulam + Florpyrauxifen-benzyl)

Corteva Novixid is a post-emergence ready-mix rice herbicide combining florpyrauxifen-benzyl (the active component of Corteva's Rinskor active family) with penoxsulam. The mix gives one-pass control of grasses, sedges and broadleaf weeds across direct-seeded and transplanted rice.

Mode of action

Two complementary modes of action operate together:

Florpyrauxifen-benzyl mimics the natural plant hormone auxin (IAA), causing uncontrolled cell elongation, division and senescence in susceptible broadleaf and sedge weeds. HRAC Group 4 (synthetic auxin).
Penoxsulam inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS), blocking branched-chain amino acid biosynthesis. HRAC Group 2 (ALS inhibitor). Active on grasses, sedges and broadleaves.

The combined spectrum is broader than either active alone, and the two-mode mix is a resistance-management strategy against ALS-resistant rice weeds.

Target use and dose

Standard rate is 500 ml/acre in 150-200 L water, applied at the 2-4 leaf weed stage / early tillering of rice. Target weeds include alligator weed, arrowhead, barnyard grass, duck salad, eclipta, flat sedge, jointvetch, lambsquarters, nutsedge and broadleaf signal grass. The product is rainfast within about 2 hours.

Safety and regulatory status

Novixid is selective only on rice; spray drift to broadleaf crops (especially cotton, tomato, grape) will cause severe injury through the auxin component. To delay ALS resistance, rotation with Pretilachlor Craze (HRAC 15) at pre-emergence and Bispyribac Sodium Nominee Gold or Pyrazosulfuron Chempa for follow-up is good practice.
