Telangana Fine Paddy Rs 500/quintal Bonus

For the 2024-25 kharif season the Government of Telangana announced a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal over the central Minimum Support Price on notified fine-grain paddy varieties procured at state procurement centres. The bonus is designed to incentivise a shift in cropping pattern from coarse to fine and export-quality rice and is administered through the Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation alongside regular MSP procurement (see Ikp Paddy Procurement).

Overview

The bonus is paid on top of the Centre's MSP for the season at procurement centres run by IKP SHGs, PACS, ITDA and DCMS. Eligible varieties were notified by the Telangana Agriculture Department; coverage includes 33 fine-paddy varieties such as BPT-5204 (Samba Mahsuri), RNR-15048 (Telangana Sona), HMT Sona and Jai Shriram.

Eligibility

Any farmer growing a notified fine variety and bringing the harvest to a state procurement centre during the official window is eligible. The grain must meet the fine-paddy specification — kernel breadth under 6 mm and length-to-breadth ratio above 2.5 — at the standard 17% moisture cap.

Benefit and structure

  • Bonus: Rs 500 per quintal over the central MSP on notified fine varieties
  • Period: kharif 2024-25
  • Varieties: 33 fine-paddy varieties including BPT-5204, RNR-15048, HMT Sona and Jai Shriram
  • Quality norms: fine-grain definition with 17% moisture cap

Following the bonus announcement, fine-paddy acreage in Telangana rose approximately 61% to about 4 million acres in kharif 2024-25.

Implementation

The Telangana Cabinet notified eligible varieties through the State Agriculture Department, with procurement centres of the Civil Supplies Corporation paying MSP plus bonus by DBT after grading and weighment. The bonus interacts with the central MSP regime (see Msp Minimum Support Price) and the broader package of state farmer-welfare schemes such as Rythu Bandhu Rythu Bharosa and Rythu Bima.
