Portable Petrol Engine Sprayer (HTP)
A portable HTP power sprayer combines a horizontal triplex (three-plunger) high-pressure pump with a four-stroke petrol engine on a wheeled or skid-mounted frame. It is the standard high-pressure plant-protection unit for paddy, orchard, plantation and tall field crops where droplet penetration over long distances is required.
Function
The HTP pump draws spray liquid from a 200-litre external drum through a suction hose and delivers it through 50-100 metres of high-pressure delivery hose to a hand-held lance. Working pressure of up to about 400 psi atomises liquid through a single or twin spray nozzle and propels droplets up to 10-15 metres into orchard or paddy canopies.
Design and specifications
The Honda GX series is the de-facto industry standard prime mover for HTP power sprayers in India. The GX80 (about 2.5 HP) drives smaller pumps; the GX160 (4-stroke OHV) is rated at 3.2 kW (4.3 HP) at 3,600 rpm. Total weight is around 12.5 kg for the engine-and-pump assembly, allowing two operators to lift it between fields.
Operation
Two operators are typically required - one to move the pump-and-drum unit and one to wield the lance. The high-pressure hose is laid along the row to be sprayed. The HTP power sprayer covers larger areas per hour than a Knapsack Battery Sprayer or a 4 Stroke Knapsack Sprayer and is preferred over a Mist Blower in paddy.
Subsidy and adoption
HTP power sprayers are listed under SMAM plant-protection-equipment categories and are widely owned by individual farmers, CHCs and dealer rental fleets (Agri Machinery Dealer Ecosystem).
