Bispyribac sodium 10% SC
Bispyribac sodium is a post-emergent systemic rice herbicide marketed in India as PI Industries Nominee Gold, Indofil Nami, Kri-Weed and other brands at 10% SC. It controls a broad spectrum of grass, sedge and broadleaf weeds in transplanted, direct-seeded and nursery paddy.
Composition / Active ingredient
- Active ingredient: Bispyribac sodium
- Formulation: 10% SC (suspension concentrate)
- Chemical class: Pyrimidinyloxybenzoate
Mode of action
Bispyribac sodium inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS), the first enzyme in branched-chain amino acid biosynthesis. It is classified under HRAC Group 2. Foliar absorption is rapid, with translocation through xylem and phloem to growing meristems; treated weeds stop growth within hours and die within 7-14 days. The herbicide is rainfast within about 6 hours.
Target use and dose
Label use is post-emergence at the 2-5 leaf stage of weeds, typically 15-25 days after transplanting. The PI Nominee Gold label dose is 120 ml/acre (1 ml/L); lower rates of 50 ml/acre and 100 ml/acre are also used in regional practice depending on weed pressure and product (e.g. Indofil Nami at 50 ml/acre). Fields should be drained before spraying and re-flooded within 48-72 hours.
Safety and regulatory status
Bispyribac sodium is non-selective to several broadleaf and non-rice cereal crops; spray drift must be avoided. Reliance on a single ALS-inhibitor over multiple seasons selects for resistance, so it is commonly tank-mixed with other HRAC groups such as Novixid Penoxsulam Florpyrauxifen or rotated with chloroacetamide Pretilachlor Craze (HRAC 15) at pre-emergence.
