Mahi 7422 chilli hybrid (Nongwoo)
Mahi 7422 is a Nongwoo Seed India F1 hybrid hot pepper in the fresh-green short-fruit segment, built on Korean genetics adapted to Indian conditions. The hybrid is positioned for kharif/rainy-season green-chilli markets rather than red-dry, with strongest distribution reported in Telangana and northern Karnataka.
Key characteristics
- Company: Nongwoo Seed India
- Segment: fresh-green short-fruit
- Fruit: 8-9 cm length x 1.0-1.1 cm diameter, smooth-skinned, high pungency
- First harvest: 60-65 days after transplanting
- Plant habit: strong, erect, spreading, densely foliaged
- Preferred season: kharif / rainy
Cultivation
Mahi 7422 is grown using the standard chilli package of practices, with nursery raising (Practice Chilli Nursery Raising), staged NPK (Practice Chilli Fertilizer Schedule) and IPM spray schedules (Practice Chilli Spray Schedule) appropriate to a green-pick hybrid. The kharif positioning carries elevated leaf-curl-virus and thrips pressure.
Pest and disease profile
Like other rainy-season green chillies, Mahi 7422 is exposed to chilli leaf curl virus (Disease Chilli Leaf Curl Virus) transmitted by whitefly (Pest Sucking Pests Chilli), the invasive black thrips (Pest Thrips Parvispinus Black Thrips) and the yellow / broad mite complex (Pest Mites Chilli).
Adoption and use
Mahi 7422 is sold through BigHaat and Indian agri-input retailers in standard seed-pouch packs and competes with other fresh-green hybrids such as Seminis SVHA 2222 (Chilli Seminis Svha 2222) and Sakata Red Hot 2090 (Chilli Sakata Red Hot 2090).
