Solar CCTV Camera for Farm Security

A solar CCTV camera for farm security is a self-powered, internet-connected outdoor surveillance unit deployed on isolated farms, pumphouses and storage sheds where mains power and WiFi are unavailable. Such units have become common for monitoring pump-house theft, crop-damage incursions and remote storage.

Function

A 4-megapixel pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera streams live video over the 4G mobile network using a SIM card. Built-in artificial-intelligence detection alerts the owner only on human or vehicle events, reducing data consumption from continuous streaming. Infra-red and white-light illumination support night vision to about 100 metres.

Design and specifications

The camera is paired with a 4-5 watt solar PV panel and an integrated rechargeable battery sized for two to three days of cloudy-weather autonomy. The housing is IP66-rated for dust and rain. The SIM is carrier-agnostic (Jio, Airtel, BSNL, Vi), accommodating coverage gaps across India. Common Indian brands include Trueview, Maizic, Secureye and Hikvision, with retail prices in the range of Rs 8,000-15,000.

Operation

The unit is mounted on a pole or wall facing the area of interest. The user accesses the live feed and event alerts through a smartphone app linked to the camera by serial number. PTZ control allows remote panning along the farm boundary. Common deployments cover the pump-house against motor theft, the watch tower over standing crop, and the storage shed.

Subsidy and adoption

Solar farm security units are listed under several state agriculture and horticulture missions and may be supported alongside Solar Fencing under integrated farm-security packages. Adoption is rising rapidly in vegetable and fruit clusters where theft is frequent.
