Ankur 3028 cotton hybrid

Ankur 3028 BG-II is a Bollgard-II Bt cotton hybrid from Ankur Seeds Pvt. Ltd., Nagpur. It is one of the leading private hybrids of the central cotton zone — Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat — and is positioned as a high-yielding medium-duration hybrid for medium-deep black cotton soils under both rainfed and irrigated cultivation.

Key characteristics

  • Manufacturer: Ankur Seeds Pvt. Ltd., Nagpur.
  • Trait: Bollgard-II (Bt Cotton Bg Ii) — Cry1Ac + Cry2Ab.
  • Duration: 150-165 days (medium).
  • Plant type: medium-tall (130-170 cm), semi-erect with strong sympodial branching, big bolls (5-6 g per boll), good lint percentage (~ 36%).
  • Recommended states: Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka.
  • Adaptation: medium-deep black cotton (Vertisol) soils; rainfed and irrigated.
  • Staple length: 28-30 mm, medium.

Cultivation

Spacing in conventional plantings is 90 × 60 cm on heavier soils or 120 × 45 cm on lighter soils. The semi-erect canopy and strong sympodial habit make the hybrid tolerant of higher plant populations than older spreading types — paired-row variants on the Amrit Pattern (Amrit Pattern Cotton) have been used with Ankur 3028. Standard fertilisation (Cotton First Dose Fertilizer), weed management (Cotton Weed Management) and topping (Cotton Topping Pinching) at 90-100 cm height apply.

Pest profile

Ankur 3028 carries the Bollgard-II stack and so retains protection against American bollworm and Spodoptera. Pink-bollworm (Pink Bollworm) resistance to BG-II means integrated management is required — pheromone-trap monitoring, timely crop termination by December (Cotton Delayed Sowing Ipm) and refuge (Refuge In Bag Cotton). The sucking-pest complex (Sucking Pest Complex Cotton) requires routine attention: imidacloprid seed treatment and early-season foliar management for jassid, thrips and whitefly.

Adoption and use

Ankur 3028 is reported as one of the largest-volume hybrids in the central cotton zone. Field reports highlight uniform boll-bursting, sturdy plant architecture that withstands wind in standing crop, and tolerance of moisture stress during dry spells. The medium duration allows double-cropping with rabi gram or wheat (Cotton Double Cropping Systems) on irrigated tracts.
