Jassids and sucking pests on flower crops

Sucking-pest complex on flower crops (marigold, chrysanthemum, jasmine, rose) includes jassids (Empoasca spp.), thrips (Thrips tabaci, Scirtothrips dorsalis), aphids (Aphis gossypii, Myzus persicae) and whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci).

Identification and biology

  • Pest Complex: jassids, thrips, aphids, whiteflies on marigold/chrysanthemum/rose/jasmine
  • Chemical Control: imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.3 ml/L; thiamethoxam; dimethoate
  • Natural Enemies: Chrysoperla carnea, coccinellids

Management

ICAR-IIHR and SAU recommendations centre on imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.3 ml/L, thiamethoxam 25 WG, dimethoate 30 EC, or rotation with spinetoram for thrips; conservation of Chrysoperla and coccinellid predators is encouraged in IPM packages.
