Pymetrozine + dinotefuran

Pymetrozine + dinotefuran pre-mixes target the rice planthopper complex — primarily Nilaparvata lugens (brown planthopper, BPH) and Sogatella furcifera (white-backed planthopper, WBPH) — by pairing a fast feeding-blocker with a systemic nicotinic agonist. Indian brands include Adama Bazak, Indofil Sky Star, Agrostar Rexpect, Best Agrolife Axeman and Katyayani BPH Super+.

Mode of action

Two unrelated nervous-system modes operate together:

Pymetrozine modulates the chordotonal organ TRPV channel of hemipteran insects, abolishing position-sense and triggering immediate feeding cessation. IRAC Group 9B (selective feeding blocker). Sap-feeding stops within minutes.
Dinotefuran is a third-generation neonicotinoid acting as an nAChR competitive modulator. IRAC Group 4A. Highly water-soluble, with strong systemic and translaminar movement.

The mix gives fast knockdown plus residual systemic protection against the planthopper complex.

Target use and dose

Adama Bazak label dose is 150 g/acre in 200 L water. Application is at first BPH/WBPH detection, typically panicle initiation through milking stage. The fast feeding-blocker action prevents virus transmission by hopper vectors as well as direct sap-feeding damage.

Safety and regulatory status

Imidacloprid resistance in BPH is widespread in many Asian rice-growing regions, but dinotefuran often retains activity because of its high water solubility and different binding affinity. To preserve both Group 4A and 9B chemistry, the combo is rotated with Triflumezopyrim Pexalon (IRAC 4E, mesoionic) and Flonicamid Ulala (IRAC 29) — both of which target planthoppers through unrelated modes of action.
