Bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis)

Bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis, Hypophthalmichthys genus లో కూడా ఉంచుతారు) అన్నది ఒక exotic surface-and-column zooplankton filter-feeder carp. మూలంగా చైనా. 1960ల్లో భారత aquaculture లోకి experimentally దిగుమతి అయింది. కానీ పరిమిత scale లోనే adoption — దీని zooplankton niche కాట్ల (preferred indigenous large carp) తో overlap అవుతుంది కాబట్టి.

ముఖ్య లక్షణాలు

  • కుటుంబం: Cyprinidae
  • శరీరం: చాలా పెద్ద head (body length లో మూడవ వంతు). పైకి తిరిగిన నోరు. శరీరం బూడిద రంగు, irregular ముదురు blotches తో. Silver carp కు దగ్గరగా ఉంటుంది కానీ gill rakers coarser గా, head పెద్దగా ఉంటాయి
  • Feeding niche: surface, column zooplankton filter-feeder. Silver carp కంటే coarser filter — 17-3000 micron పెద్ద plankton తింటుంది
  • పెరుగుదల: వేగంగా. 10-12 నెలల్లో 1-1.5 kg. అదే సమయంలో silver carp కంటే పెద్దగా అవుతుంది
  • గరిష్టం: సుమారు 1.5 m, 40 kg

సాగు

ఈశాన్య భారతదేశం, పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్ లోని కొన్ని six-species composite ponds లో bighead carp ను silver carp (Silver Carp Hypophthalmichthys Molitrix) స్థానంలో లేదా దాంతో పాటు 5-10% stock చేస్తారు. Carp pituitary లేదా synthetic GnRH analogues తో hatcheries లో induced-spawn చేస్తారు. చెరువు తయారీ ప్రామాణిక పద్ధతి (Fish Pond Construction). Organic manuring, తవుడు + నూనె తీసిన పిండి అదనపు మేత కు బాగా స్పందిస్తుంది.

కాట్ల తో conflict

Bighead carp కాట్ల (Catla Catla Indian Major Carp) తో అదే large-zooplankton niche share చేస్తుంది. అందుకే ICAR-CIFA యొక్క mainstream ఆరు జాతుల package లో surface filter-feeder slot కు silver carp (phytoplankton) ను వాడుతారు, bighead carp ను కాదు. కాట్ల ను stocking నుండి excludes చేస్తేనే లేదా local market bighead ను accept చేస్తేనే bighead carp ను సిఫార్సు చేస్తారు. Hatcheries లో bighead, silver carp brood-stock ను separately ఉంచి hybridisation prevent చేస్తారు.

పురుగు, తెగుళ్ళు

Argulosis (Carp Disease Argulus Anchor Worm), Aeromonas dropsy (Carp Disease Dropsy Aeromonas), gill rot, ichthyophthiriasis వస్తాయి. Lime, water exchange తో standard carp pond hygiene ద్వారా disease management.

వాడకం

భారతదేశంలో bighead carp culture ఈశాన్య రాష్ట్రాలు, పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్, అస్సాం, ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్, తమిళనాడు లోని కొన్ని ప్రాంతాల్లో కేంద్రీకృతం. Silver carp తో పోలిస్తే ఉత్పత్తి తక్కువ. ప్రపంచంలో తొక్కు ప్రకారం bighead carp top freshwater aquaculture జాతుల్లో ఒకటి — చైనా, బంగ్లాదేశ్ లో ప్రధాన ఉత్పత్తి. చెరువు development కు PMMSY కింద eligible.

పరిమితులు

Bighead carp కాట్ల తో పోటీ పడుతుంది — అందుకే mainstream భారత polyculture లో కాట్ల తో stock చేయరు. Silver carp లాగే దీని flesh bony, IMC కంటే per-kg price తక్కువ. Invasive risk వల్ల open waters లోకి release చేయడం నిరుత్సాహపరుస్తారు.
