PBW 1 Zn — Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), లుధియానా బ్రీడ్ చేసి 2017లో North-Western Plains Zone కి notify చేసిన zinc-biofortified bread wheat రకం. HarvestPlus-CGIAR biofortification programme కింద CIMMYT germplasm తో అభివృద్ధి చేశారు; భారతదేశంలో commercial గా deploy చేసిన మొదటి zinc-biofortified wheats లో ఇది ఒకటి.

సాగు
PBW 1 Zn timely-sown irrigated రకం. విత్తనం వేసే కాలం అక్టోబర్ 25 - నవంబర్ 25. Seed rate 100 kg/ha, వరుసల మధ్య 22.5 cm. NPK 150:60:40 kg/ha; N split 50% basal, 25% CRI, 25% tillering. Season లో ఐదు-ఆరు irrigations (CRI, tillering, jointing, flowering, milking, dough). Soil Zn తగినంత ఉంటే gain accumulation బాగుంటుంది — Zn deficient soils లో 25 kg ZnSO4/ha basal వేయాలి.
పోషక విలువ
ఉత్తర భారతంలో 30 శాతం పైగా పిల్లల్లో zinc deficiency ఉంది; దీని వల్ల growth retardation, weak immunity వస్తాయి. సాధారణ wheat లో grain zinc 25-32 ppm; PBW 1 Zn 40.6 ppm కి తీసుకువస్తుంది. ఒక typical wheat-based meal తోనే WHO రోజువారీ zinc target లో దాదాపు రెండు-మూడవ వంతు అందుతుంది. Zinc biofortification genetic — విత్తనంలోనే ఉంది కాబట్టి రైతుకు, వినియోగదారుకు అదనపు ఖర్చు ఉండదు.

PAU లుధియానా, ICAR-IIWBR కర్నాల్, partner ATMA agencies PBW 1 Zn multiplication చేస్తున్నాయి. HarvestPlus India పంజాబ్, హర్యానా, UP లో farmer awareness, seed-village programmes నడుపుతుంది. భారత ప్రభుత్వ Poshan Abhiyaan nutrition mission కింద WB 02 (Fe+Zn biofortified release) తో పాటు దీన్ని కూడా ప్రోత్సహిస్తున్నారు.
