Luit swamp గేదె
Luit — భారతదేశంలో అధికారికంగా registered అయిన ఏకైక swamp-type గేదె (Bubalus bubalis carabanesis). భారతీయ పాడి పరిశ్రమలో ప్రధానంగా ఉండే river-type గేదెల కంటే వేరు. NBAGR లో 2014 లో registered. Assam Brahmaputra valley floodplain, char-land ecosystem లో ఈ breed native. Swamp గేదెల్లో 48 chromosomes (river గేదెల్లో 50), productivity profile వేరు — నెమ్మదిగా పెరుగుతుంది, పాలు తక్కువ, కానీ draught, wallowing కు చాలా బలంగా ఉంటుంది.
మూలం, విస్తరణ
మూల ప్రాంతం — Assam Brahmaputra valley జిల్లాలు Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Darrang, Morigaon, Nagaon, Kamrup, Goalpara; పక్క అరుణాచల్ ప్రదేశ్, నాగాలాండ్లోకి విస్తరించింది. భూటాన్, ఉత్తర మయన్మార్ swamp గేదెలతో జన్యు సంబంధం; కింది Brahmaputra లో జనపనార, వరి, char-land వ్యవసాయానికి ఇది workhorse.
స్వరూపం
Luit medium-size; river గేదెల కంటే stockier, తక్కువ ఎత్తు శరీరం. పెద్ద గేదె 350-400 kg, ఎద్దు 450-500 kg. Coat slate-grey నుంచి dark-grey, మెడ, కింది దవడ మీద pale "chevron" mark. కొమ్ములు బయటకి, కొంచెం పైకి wide crescent గా తిరుగుతాయి — Murrah కంటే చాలా flat, horizontal. Hooves వెడల్పుగా, toes splayed — మట్టి, flood-plain grazing కు adaptation.
దిగుబడి / ఉత్పాదకత
250-280 day lactation లో దిగుబడి 400-700 kg — తక్కువ; fat 8-9%, SNF 9.5% — ఎక్కువ. మొదటి calving ఆలస్యం (50-60 నెలలు); calving interval 18-24 నెలలు — commercial dairying కి slow, subsistence system లో OK.
Luit యొక్క నిజమైన విలువ draught, wallowing. ఒక జంట సంతృప్త వరి పొలంలో రోజుకి 0.3-0.4 ha దున్నగలవు; నీళ్ళలో నిలిచి పని చేస్తాయి; చక్రాలు మునిగే చోట జనపనార carts లాగుతాయి. Buffalo meat కోసం కూడా వధ చేస్తారు — Assam లో ప్రధాన protein source.
యాజమాన్యం
Low-input breed: పగలు char-land grazing, రాత్రి shelter; భారీ పని సమయంలో మాత్రమే వరి straw, rice gruel. చెరువులు లేదా నది channels లో wallowing తప్పనిసరి — రోజువారీ wallow లేకపోతే వేడిగా ఉంటాయి, condition వేగంగా పోతుంది. Murrah తో indiscriminate cross chromosome level లోనే అడ్డుపడుతుంది (50 × 48 = sterile లేదా low-fertility F1) — కాబట్టి pure-breeding ద్వారా breed conservation ఒక్కటే improvement path.
