WB 02 — ICAR-IIWBR, కర్నాల్ బ్రీడ్ చేసి 2017లో North-Western Plains Zone కి notify చేసిన iron, zinc biofortified bread wheat రకం. భారత ప్రభుత్వ biofortification push కింద PBW 1 Zn తో పాటు విడుదల అయింది; భారతదేశంలో రెండు (Fe+Zn) biofortification కలిగిన మొదటి wheats లో ఇది ఒకటి.

WB 02 timely-sown irrigated రకం. విత్తనం వేసే కాలం అక్టోబర్ 25 - నవంబర్ 25. Seed rate 100 kg/ha, వరుసల మధ్య 22.5 cm. NPK 150:60:40 kg/ha; N split 50% basal, 25% CRI, 25% tillering. Season లో ఐదు-ఆరు irrigations (CRI, tillering, jointing, flowering, milking, dough). Soil micronutrients తగినంత ఉంటే Fe, Zn accumulation బాగుంటుంది — deficient soils లో 25 kg ZnSO4/ha, 10 kg FeSO4/ha basal వేయాలి.

పోషక విలువ

ఉత్తర భారతంలో iron-deficiency anaemia, zinc deficiency రెండూ — ముఖ్యంగా మహిళలు, పిల్లల్లో — ఎక్కువగా ఉన్నాయి. సాధారణ wheat లో Fe 28-32 ppm, Zn 25-32 ppm; WB 02 రెండింటినీ దాదాపు 42 ppm కి తీసుకువస్తుంది. NWPZ లో per-capita wheat consumption ~150-200 g/రోజు; WB 02 వినియోగదారుకు అదనపు ఖర్చు లేకుండా రోజుకు ~3-4 mg Fe, Zn ఇస్తుంది — భారత ప్రభుత్వ Poshan Abhiyaan లక్ష్యాలకు మద్దతు ఇస్తుంది.

WB 02 ను ICAR-IIWBR కర్నాల్, పంజాబ్/హర్యానా/UP state seed corporations, partner ATMA agencies multiplication చేస్తున్నాయి. HarvestPlus India, ICAR కలిసి PBW 1 Zn తో పాటు awareness, seed-village programmes నడుపుతున్నాయి. Farmer Producer Organisations linked clusters లో — harvest aggregate చేసి biofortification label కింద market చేయగలిగే చోట — వాడకం ఎక్కువగా ఉంది.
