Soil suitability for potato (regade, red, sandy, saline)
బంగాళదుంపకు నేల అనుకూలత (రేగడ, ఎర్ర, ఇసుక, ఉప్పు)
బంగాళదుంప, ఇతర tuber పంటలు loose, well-aerated, organic matter ఎక్కువగా ఉన్న నేలల్లో బాగా పెరుగుతాయి — ఇక్కడ tuber mechanical resistance లేకుండా expand అవుతుంది, skin clean finish తో set అవుతుంది. Soil texture, pH, drainage కలిసి అనుకూలతను determine చేస్తాయి; heavy clay, saline నేలలు సాధారణంగా modification లేకుండా అనువు కాదు.
గుర్తింపు
బంగాళదుంపకు ideal soil — sandy loam నుండి loam, well-drained, దాదాపు pH 5.2 నుండి 6.4, organic-matter content ఎక్కువ. Red, well-drained alluvial soils — drainage adequate ఉంటే acceptable. Heavy black-cotton నేలలను దక్షిణ భారతంలో రేగడ అంటారు — high clay content, slow drainage, drying పై shrink-swell cracking వల్ల ఇవి సాధారణంగా tuber crops కు అనువు కాదు. ఉప్పు (చౌడు) నేలలు కూడా reclamation లేకుండా అనువు కాదు — salts tuber set ను తగ్గిస్తాయి, నాణ్యత ను తగ్గిస్తాయి.
అమలు
Site evaluation pH, texture, salinity status ను confirm చేయడానికి Soil Testing తో మొదలవుతుంది. Suitable range లోపే marginally ఆమ్ల నేలల్లో liming అవసరం లేదు; మరింత ఆమ్ల plots పై light liming apply చేయొచ్చు కానీ scab risk manage చేయడానికి pH 6.5 కంటే తక్కువగా ఉంచాలి. Adequate field drainage essential — waterlogging tubers ను suffocate చేస్తుంది. Sandy soils clean tuber skin, better visual quality ఇస్తాయి, కానీ irrigation, nutrient retention పై ఎక్కువ శ్రద్ధ అవసరం.
వాడకం
Tuber పంటలు alluvial, red-soil belts పై concentrated గా ఉంటాయి — texture, pH పంట preferences తో align అవుతాయి. Heavy clay landscapes పై raised beds, organic amendment poor drainage ను partial గా compensate చేయగలవు, కానీ lighter soils యొక్క దిగుబడిని match చేయవు. pH లేదా salinity correction అవసరమైనప్పుడు Soil Ph Management, Saline Soil Paddy Management parallel practices వర్తిస్తాయి.
పరిమితులు
Texture ను field scale లో economically alter చేయలేరు; suitability assessment ఎక్కువగా siting నిర్ణయం. Ideal soils పై కూడా, tuber crops heavy machinery నుండి compaction కు, harvest వద్ద physical damage కు sensitive — ఇది skin quality, shelf life ను limits చేస్తుంది.
