Nendran అరటి — కేరళ వంటకాల plantain
Nendran — AAB genome group కి చెందిన పొడవైన plantain రకం; కేరళ, పక్కనే ఉన్న తమిళనాడు ప్రాంతాల్లో ప్రత్యేకమైన cultural, culinary స్థానం కలిగి ఉంది. Onam పండుగ ఆహారానికి ప్రధానమైన అరటి ఇదే; కేరళ chips industry కి ముడిసరుకు; భారతదేశం నుండి Gulf దేశాలకు తాజా plantain ఎగుమతిలో ఎక్కువ contribution ఇచ్చే ఏకైక cultivar. ICAR-NRCB Trichy, Kerala Agricultural University (Thrissur) — ఈ రకానికి dedicated breeding, agronomy programs నిర్వహిస్తున్నాయి. 'Manjeri Nendran I, II', 'Changalikodan' (GI tag కలిగినది) వంటి improved selections వీటిలో భాగం.

సాగు
Nendran ను 7 ft x 7 ft spacing తో raised beds లో లేదా farmyard manure + lime తో నింపిన గుంటల్లో నాటతారు. Drip-fertigation ద్వారా balanced NPK — గెల filling time లో ఎక్కువ potassium ఇస్తారు. మొక్క పొడవు, గెల బరువు ఎక్కువ కాబట్టి — గెల వచ్చిన తర్వాత వెదురు లేదా casuarina poles తో propping తప్పనిసరి. ఎక్కువ తోటలను plant-crop-only గా నిర్వహిస్తారు; pseudostem ఎత్తు, lodging risk వల్ల ratoon performance G9 తో పోలిస్తే తక్కువ. Sucker-based propagation ఇంకా సాధారణం; కానీ viral incidence తగ్గించడానికి tissue-cultured నారు వాడకం పెరుగుతోంది.
పురుగు, తెగుళ్ళు
Nendran — Fusarium wilt Race 1 (Banana Fusarium Wilt Foc Tr4), banana bunchy top virus (Banana Bunchy Top Virus), Sigatoka leaf spots (Banana Sigatoka Yellow Mycosphaerella) కు highly susceptible. కేరళ laterite belt తేమ ప్రాంతాల్లో corm weevil (Banana Corm Weevil Cosmopolites), nematodes ప్రధాన below-ground constraints. Mat sanitation, suckers కు paring, pralinage; tissue-culture నారు — ముఖ్యమైన preventive చర్యలు.
వాడకం
Nendran — కేరళలో (తృష్షూర్, పాలక్కడ్, వయనాడ్, ఎర్నాకుళం జిల్లాలు) అరటి సాగును dominate చేస్తుంది; తమిళనాడులోని కోయంబత్తూరు, కన్యాకుమారి జిల్లాల్లో కూడా ఎక్కువ. తాజా వినియోగం, Onam ఆహారం కాకుండా — తృష్షూర్, కోజికోడ్ ఆధారిత కేరళ banana chips industry కి ఈ రకమే foundation; Gulf Cooperation Council దేశాలకు stable fresh-fruit export trade కూడా ఇదే support చేస్తుంది.
