గోధుమ జాతులు — aestivum, durum, dicoccum

భారతదేశంలో గోధుమ ఒక్క జాతి కాదు — మూడు జాతులు. ఒక్కో జాతికి chromosome count, end-use, పెరిగే ప్రాంతం వేరు వేరు. ఈ తేడాలు తెలుసుకుంటే రైతుకు తన నేల, irrigation, market కి సరిపోయే రకాన్ని ఎంచుకోవడం సులభం.

Triticum aestivum — bread wheat

Hexaploid (2n=42), భారతదేశంలో dominant species — మొత్తం wheat area లో దాదాపు 95 శాతం. Aestivum soft to medium-hard గింజ ఇస్తుంది; chapati, bread కి బాగుంటుంది. దాదాపు IIWBR/IARI/PAU flagship releases అన్నీ (HD 2967, HD 3086, DBW 222, DBW 303, PBW 725, PBW 1 Zn, HD 3226, WB 02) bread wheat. NWPZ (పంజాబ్, హర్యానా, పశ్చిమ UP, రాజస్థాన్), NEPZ (తూర్పు UP, బీహార్, ఝార్ఖండ్, WB, ఒడిశా), CZ (MP, గుజరాత్, రాజస్థాన్), PZ (మహారాష్ట్ర, కర్ణాటక) లో సాగు అవుతుంది. 4-6 irrigations అవసరం; అక్టోబర్-నవంబర్‌లో విత్తనం, మార్చ్-ఏప్రిల్‌లో harvest.

Triticum durum — macaroni / pasta wheat

Tetraploid (2n=28), భారత wheat area లో దాదాపు 4 శాతం; ముఖ్యంగా మధ్యప్రదేశ్, గుజరాత్, రాజస్థాన్, మహారాష్ట్ర లో restricted irrigation కింద. Durum hard, amber, vitreous గింజ ఇస్తుంది — semolina (రవ్వ), pasta, porridge కి ideal; chapati కి సరిపోదు — gluten quality వేరు. ICAR-IIWBR కర్నాల్ రకాలు: HI 8759 (Pusa Tejas), HI 8663 (Pusa Anmol), HI 8737 (Pusa Anmol), MPO 1215, MPO 1255. Durum heat ను aestivum కంటే బాగా తట్టుకుంటుంది; central India లో post-anthesis temperatures త్వరగా పెరిగే చోట సరిపోతుంది.

Triticum dicoccum — emmer / khapli wheat

Tetraploid (2n=28), ancient hulled wheat; భారత area లో 1 శాతం కంటే తక్కువ. Dicoccum — మరాఠీలో khapli, English లో emmer — ప్రధానంగా మహారాష్ట్ర, కర్ణాటక, తమిళనాడు, MP లో rainfed/limited-irrigation conditions కింద సాగు అవుతుంది. Modern releases: DDK 1025, DDK 1029 (UAS Dharwad). దిగుబడి తక్కువ; కానీ glycaemic index తక్కువ — diabetic-friendly diet కోసం premium ధర వస్తుంది. Mandi లో bread wheat Rs 22-25/kg ఉంటే khapli Rs 80-120/kg వరకు అమ్ముతారు.
