జయంతి రోహు అన్నది భారతదేశంలో selective breeding ద్వారా అభివృద్ధి చేసిన మొదటి genetically improved మంచినీటి చేప రకం. ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), భువనేశ్వర్, Institute of Aquaculture Research (Akvaforsk), Norway తో కలిసి దీన్ని అభివృద్ధి చేసింది. 1997 నుండి రైతుల వాడకానికి విడుదల చేశారు.
ముఖ్య లక్షణాలు

- Selection method: growth కోసం combined individual + family selection (BLUP-based EBV)
- విడుదలైన generations: G1 (1997) నుండి. ప్రస్తుత వాణిజ్య seed తరువాతి generations నుండి
- Growth advantage: ప్రారంభ evaluations లో prati generation 17-18% అదనపు growth. G5 వరకు base unselected రోహు పై cumulative 50-60% growth advantage
పనితీరు
తూర్పు భారతదేశంలోని on-farm trials లో, సిఫార్సు చేసిన composite culture లో జయంతి రోహు fingerlings 12 నెలల్లో 1-1.2 kg table size కు చేరాయి. అదే నిర్వహణలో unselected రోహు 600-800 g మాత్రమే. ఈ strain disease resistance లో wild రోహు తో సమానం. అదే induced-breeding protocol అనుసరిస్తుంది. CIFA యొక్క nucleus, multiplier hatcheries network ద్వారా జయంతి రోహు 15 కి పైగా రాష్ట్రాలకు పంపిణీ అయింది. PMMSY కింద కొత్త పండ్ల development కు సిఫార్సు చేసిన రోహు strain ఇదే.
సాగు
Stocking densities, మేత, చెరువు తయారీ ప్రామాణిక రోహు తో సమానం (Rohu Labeo Rohita Imc). జయంతి fingerlings ను CIFA-certified hatcheries లేదా multiplier units నుండి తప్పనిసరిగా తీసుకోవాలి. వంశం control లేకుండా "జయంతి" అని commercially propagate చేసిన multi-generation stock కు growth advantage ఉండదు, biosecurity, brood-stock rotation maintain చేయకపోతే. ఈ strain మూడు జాతుల (Carp Polyculture Pond), ఆరు జాతుల (Composite Fish Culture Six Species) composite culture లో రెండింట్లో వాడుతున్నారు.
పరిమితులు
Accredited sources నుండి quality fingerlings (Fingerling Seed Quality) లేకపోతే performance gains రావు. వంశం control లేకుండా "జయంతి" అని అమ్మే uncertified seed కు growth advantage ఉండదు. ఈ strain ను ముఖ్యంగా growth కోసం select చేశారు — disease resistance, fillet yield, low-input pond performance కోసం కాదు.
