పత్తిలో హై-డెన్సిటీ ప్లాంటింగ్ సిస్టమ్ (HDPS)
High-Density Planting System (HDPS) — ICAR-CICR రూపొందించిన ప్యాకేజీ. ఇందులో compact, తక్కువ కాల పత్తి genotypes ను సాంప్రదాయ హైబ్రిడ్ stand కంటే దాదాపు 10 రెట్లు ఎక్కువ population తో సాగు చేస్తారు. దగ్గర spacing తో పాటు canopy management — chlormequat-chloride స్ప్రేలు, topping — కలిపి, uniform compact plant architecture ను ఎక్కువ హెక్టారు seed cotton దిగుబడిగా మారుస్తారు.
సూత్రం
భారీ నేలల్లో సాంప్రదాయ హైబ్రిడ్ పత్తి 90 × 60 సెం.మీ. spacing (హెక్టారుకు సుమారు 0.18-0.20 లక్షల మొక్కలు) తో, extended sympodial కొమ్మలపై ఒక్కో మొక్క ఎక్కువ కాయలు ఇస్తుంది. HDPS దీనికి బదులు — compact రకాలను 1.0-3.0 లక్షల మొక్కలు/హెక్టారు (సాధారణంగా 45-60 సెం.మీ. row spacing, 10 సెం.మీ. plant-to-plant) తో సాగు చేస్తుంది. ఒక్కో మొక్క తక్కువ కాయలు ఇచ్చినా, హెక్టారుకు మొత్తం దిగుబడి బాగా ఎక్కువగా ఉంటుంది.
అమలు
CICR HDPS ప్యాకేజీలో ముఖ్య అంశాలు:

- రకాలు: Suraj, Anjali వంటి compact, తక్కువ కాల genotypes; Crystal Cch 369 తో సహా చాలా ప్రైవేట్ హైబ్రిడ్లను HDPS-అనుకూలంగా అమ్ముతున్నారు
- Canopy regulation: 90-100 సెం.మీ. మొక్క ఎత్తు వద్ద chlormequat-chloride స్ప్రే, లేదా de-topping (Cotton Topping Pinching)
- యాంత్రీకరణ: power-weeders కు, పైలట్ ప్లాట్లలో మెకానికల్ pickers కు అనుగుణంగా row spacing
CICR HDPS పరిశోధనను 2010 లో మొదలుపెట్టింది; AICRP 2012 లో ప్రత్యేక compact-genotype ట్రయల్ ప్రారంభించింది. సాంప్రదాయ 90 × 60 సెం.మీ. spacing తో పోలిస్తే seed cotton దిగుబడి 30-65% ఎక్కువ అని నివేదికలు చెబుతున్నాయి.
వాడకం
HDPS — వర్షాధార నల్ల రేగడి నేలలకు, picking కూలీలు తక్కువగా ఉన్న ప్రాంతాలకు బాగా అనుకూలం (Cotton Picking Labour). తెలంగాణ, మహారాష్ట్ర, కర్ణాటకలోని కొన్ని ప్రాంతాలు — ఇవి ప్రధాన అడాప్షన్ జోన్లు. Compact paired-row variants (Amrit Pattern Cotton, Cotton Double Row Footing Drainage) ఇదే canopy-management సూత్రాన్ని ఉపయోగిస్తాయి.
పరిమితులు
HDPS కు ఖచ్చితమైన seed rate, కలుపు-నియంత్రణ టైమింగ్, topping, chlormequat application అవసరం. ప్యాకేజీ నుండి తేడా వస్తే దిగుబడి లాభం తగ్గుతుంది. యాంత్రిక picking infrastructure భారత్లో ఇంకా మొదటి దశలోనే ఉంది — compact architecture యొక్క పూర్తి ఆర్థిక ప్రయోజనాన్ని ఇది పరిమితం చేస్తుంది.
